About Jal Shakti
Pilot Project for Water Harvesting
RJF is developing this flagship project for water harvesting structures, such as check dams, contour bunds, percolation tanks, and farm ponds, in the interior villages of the Raigad district.
The 60-year-old percolation tank found in this area, has dried up over the last 50 years
due to poor maintenance and low rainfall.
The project aims to improve groundwater recharge, and reduce the dependency on rainwater.
Thus increasing the availability of water for domestic and agricultural purposes.
The project will focus on community involvement, capacity building, and sustainability to ensure long-term impact.
Further on to create a mini forest system,
we will be planting drought-resistant trees
to promote healthier soil structure that reduces erosion
and enables a balanced ecosystem.
"Our mission is to ignite a global movement for water conservation by championing the revival of perculation tankas and the creation of mini forests. We strive to inspire individuals, communities, and organizations to take proactive steps in preserving and restoring our water resources. Through education, advocacy, and hands-on initiatives, we aim to empower people to become stewards of water, fostering a deep sense of responsibility and connection to the natural world. Together, we can usher in a future where water scarcity is mitigated, ecosystems thrive, and the beauty of our cplanet is preserved for generations to come."
#Raise awareness: Increase global awareness about the importance of water conservation, the value of perculation tankas, and the benefits of mini forests.
#Education and advocacy: Provide education and advocacy programs to empower individuals, communities, and organizations to actively participate in water conservation efforts.
#Perculation tankas revival: Promote the revival and widespread implementation of perculation tankas to enhance groundwater recharge and reduce water scarcity.
#Mini forest creation: Encourage the creation of mini forests to restore and preserve ecosystems, enhance biodiversity, and mitigate the effects of climate change.
#Collaboration and partnerships: Foster collaboration and partnerships with relevant stakeholders, including governments, NGOs, businesses, and local communities, to maximize the impact of water conservation initiatives.
#Environmental stewardship: Promote a deep sense of responsibility and connection to the natural world, emphasizing the need to protect and conserve water resources for future generations.
#Sustainability: Emphasize sustainable practices and approaches in water conservation, perculation tanka revival, and mini forest creation to ensure long-term benefits and minimize negative environmental impacts.
#Inclusivity and equity: Ensure that water conservation initiatives and benefits are accessible to all communities, irrespective of socioeconomic backgrounds or geographical locations.
#Innovation and adaptability: Encourage innovative and adaptable solutions to address evolving challenges in water conservation, utilizing technology, research, and best practices.
#Collaboration and cooperation: Foster a culture of collaboration, cooperation, and shared responsibility among individuals, communities, and organizations to maximize the effectiveness of water conservation efforts.
Increased water availability: The widespread revival of perculation tankas and implementation of mini forests will lead to increased groundwater recharge, reducing water scarcity and enhancing water availability in local communities.
Biodiversity conservation: Mini forests will provide habitats for diverse plant and animal species, contributing to biodiversity conservation and ecosystem restoration.
Climate change mitigation: Mini forests act as carbon sinks, helping to mitigate the effects of climate change by absorbing greenhouse gases and reducing carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere.
Community empowerment: Through education and hands-on initiatives, individuals and communities will be empowered to actively participate in water conservation efforts, fostering a sense of ownership and pride in their environmental stewardship.
Global movement for water conservation: By inspiring individuals, communities, and organizations worldwide, the vision and mission will contribute to the creation of a global movement for water conservation, amplifying the impact of collective actions and creating lasting change.
